GRANBY, N.Y. — Ray Everett Smith Jr., 86, died March 12.
He was born in Millinocket on Jan. 24, 1923, son of Ray E. Smith Sr., and Clary (Henry) Smith.
He was raised in Yarmouth and graduated from North Yarmouth Academy.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the military intelligence division. Upon his return, he moved to Fulton, N.Y., and worked as a chemist for Sealright Co. for 32 years until his retirement in 1983.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary (Etzel) Smith; children, Mark G. Smith and Gretchen Bryan, both of Florida; grandchildren Clarisa Purks, Rebecca Pendleton and Trevor Smith, all of Florida and Travis Smith of Maine; sisters, Helen Maxell of Yarmouth, Ruth Douglas and George Smith, both of Maine; five great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were private.
