Gift benefits local theater
Sanford Institution for Savings has presented the Saco River Grange Hall with a check for $2,500. The second annual donation will help the Saco River Grange Hall maintain and continue its schedule of theatrical and artistic events.
“During the current difficult fundraising environment, there’s no better time to support the arts in our communities,” said Mark T. Mickeriz, president and CEO of the bank. “The Saco River Grange Hall continues to provide our region with events of artistic and cultural relevance.”
Dana Packard, artistic director at the Saco River Grange Hall said, “We are humbled and grateful to the Sanford Institution for Savings for their generous gift this year, especially in light of the current economic climate. It is a rare and wonderful thing for a bank to make such a strong commitment to the arts in its community.”
The donation will also help to launch the hall’s spring show, “Leading Ladies, “a comedy by Ken Ludwig.
For more information and tickets, call 929-5412. The Saco River Grange Hall was built in 1897 and now serves as a nonprofit community center with an emphasis on the arts. Since 1990, The Originals, a professional theater group, has called the Saco River Grange Hall its performance home.

On dean’s list
Joshua L. Avery has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. Avery is majoring in physical therapy.
Brittainy Knight was named to the dean’s list at the University of Massachusetts on the Boston campus for the fall semester.
Magazine honored
The Bonny Eagle High School literary magazine, “The Green Light,” received a rank of excellent in 2008 from the National Council of Teachers of English.
Erika Glidden and Kathryn McGonagle were student editors and Rick Simonds, faculty and literary adviser. Tom Vickery, Sean Rothgaber, Kelly Martin, Christina Avery, Bridget Ferry, Dereck Brown, Erika Glidden, Kethryn McGonagle, Cori Simmons and Annie Ashby were students on the editorial staff.
Bonny Eagle High School faculty on the advisory board were Peg Maxwell, art adviser; Dr. Paul Star, photographic adviser; and Suzanne Simmons, graphic designer.
