A Westbrook artist is on the lookout for her painting, stolen from the Frog and Turtle restaurant earlier this month.
Mary Brooking said the $450 painting, called “Startle Blue,” was stolen on March 8 from the Bridge Street restaurant.
“We pretty much know when it happened,” said Brooking, who believes she was inside the restaurant with her husband at the time of the theft.
Brooking had about 10 of her acrylic paintings displayed at the restaurant since the beginning of February. This particular one was a marsh scene, predominantly blue, gold and gray in color.
When she found out the painting was missing, Brooking said, her fear was that it was thrown into the Presumpscot River. But, her suspicions are that “it was probably actually someone who admired it.”
Still, Brooking would like to see her painting returned, and said to anyone who has it or might know where it is, it can be returned to Frog and Turtle, no questions asked.
Though Brooking “couldn’t sleep” after the painting was stolen and immediately took down the rest, she’ll show her work again next at Ameriprise Financial on Sable Oaks Drive in South Portland, starting May 8.
