The Scarborough fifth grade girls travel team recently finished their season with a hard fought victory over Lake Region to win the Freeport Travel League Championship on March 9. It was the fifth time the two teams had played with each game as tough as the last. The girls finished their season with a 20-1 record. Their only loss at the hands of the same Lake Region team who beat them in the regular season by one in overtime.
The team’s motto all year was “small in numbers but big in heart.” The girls competed at a high level all season. The team was well respected throughout the league for their competitive play, teamwork, fundamentals, and sportsmanship.
This was the second year in a row that Scarborough and Lake Region competed for the title with the Lakers getting the better of the Red Storm last year by three points.
Members of the team are: Bailey Adams, Ashley Briggs, Shannon Mars, Kaitlin Prince, Sarah Rinaldi, Lindsey Thurston, and Samantha Sparda. Don Briggs and Doug Adams coach the team.
