Gorham students in Sousa fest
Four eighth-grade students from Gorham Middle School have been accepted to participate in the John Philip Sousa National Honor Bands for the New England region next month in Massachusetts.
Kim Mathieu, instrumental band director at Gorham Middle School, said the four are Shea Ahearn, Arthur Lockman, Justin Reyes and Michael Sullivan Jr. The four are among 250 selected from applications sent to 1,200 New England schools. The annual festival will be Thursday and Friday, April 23 and 24, at the Bromfield School in Harvard, Mass.
Triad meets monthly
The Gorham-Westbrook Triad meets 9-10 a.m. on the second Friday of the month. Fred Morrill and Dave Garthe, both of Gorham, are co-chairmen of the group, which is a partnership involving law enforcement, social services and senior citizens. Garthe said the group first met in July.
Gorham Police Officer Ted Hatch spoke with the group Friday about safe guarding Social Security numbers and credit cards. The next meeting will be Friday, April 10, at Westbrook Police Department.
The meetings offer information about a wide variety of topics, including frauds and scams, emergency plans and crime prevention education. For more information, call Morrill at 839-7785 or Garthe, 839-5407.

Dean’s list honors
Emily L. Cross has been named to second honors on the dean’s list at Clark University in Worcester, Mass. Cross, a 2006 graduate of Gorham High School, is a member of the class of 2010 at the university.
Kathleen C. Masterson has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. A graduate of Gorham High School in 2006, Masterson is a member of the class of 2010.
Talking herbs
A master gardener, Donna McCollough, will speak about herb gardens from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, at Gorham Recreation Department, 75 South St. Find out which herbs are best for your needs and how to incorporate them into your garden. The $5 registration fee supports Gorham Recreation Community Garden planned for Robie Park.
