South Portland High junior Keegan Hyland was recently named SMAA boys basketball co-MVP. The league’s coaches voted on the award. He shared the honor with Cheverus’ Mick DiStasio.
Hyland was also named a first team all-star. Teammate Matt Lee was selected to the third team. Scarborough’s Garrett Alofs received honorable mention. Scarborough’s Zach Bean was named rookie of the year and named to the all-rookie team. Scarborough’s Peter Tuma was recognized as a senior academic all-star.
In girls basketball, Scarborough’s Christy Manning was named a first team all-star. South Portland’s Brianna Hawkins was named to the all-academic team.
The SMAA cheerleading all-stars were also recently announced with a number of Scarborough cheerleaders recognized: Brianna Mancuso, Christin O’Halloran and Shelby Dahms were named to the first team; Kirsten Krear, Kayla Chamberlain and Hailee Flaherty were named to the second team.
