The owners of Skybox Bar and Grill will have the chance to plead their case for reopening the Brown Street bar in front of the city’s Zoning Board Wednesday.
Allen and Lynn Moore have already faced decisions from the City Council, the Department of Public Safety’s Liquor Licensing and Compliance Division and Westbrook’s code enforcement officer regarding the bar.
After the council denied issuing the Moores a liquor license – five months after denying the same to previous owners Tom and Ellen Dore – the state overturned the decision. However, the state determined the license couldn’t be issued until the bar was physically separated from Ellen Dore’s catering business, which is in the same building.
Tom Dore, who owns the building at 212 Brown St., made the renovations, separating the catering kitchen from the bar, but the changes caused another issue for the Moores. Code Enforcement Officer Rick Gouzie determined that, without a kitchen, the classification of the restaurant changed to one that is not permitted in that zone.
The Moores are appealing Gouzie’s decision to the Zoning Board at a meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Room 114 at Westbrook High School.
