At 1 a.m. Monday, in midst of a winter storm, Dave Pinkham reported for his first day of work.
A lifelong resident of Buxton, Pinkham, 41, was unanimously named by Buxton electmen last week as the town’s new director of Public Works.
He replaces Lary Owen, who resigned on Dec. 19.
“Everybody has been great,” he said Tuesday.
Pinkham grew up and lives in Buxton. A graduate of Bonny Eagle High School, he previously had been self-employed providing a variety of services including carpentry. He has experience in residential and commercial snow plowing, besides working a couple of years for the city of Biddeford.
He’s well known through out New England as a veteran race car driver. He calls Beech Ridge in Scarborough his home track, but he has gone on tour driving for others.
But this year Pinkham will have to curb his racing a bit. “With this job, I have to be available,” he said.
Pinkham is engaged. He and his fiancae, Meegan, haven’t set a wedding date yet. He has two children; Alexis, 14, is a freshman at Bonny Eagle High School, and Alex, 10, is in the fourth grade at the Hanson Elementary School.
Buxton is close to replacing its present town garage in Buxton Center with its new $1.8 million one adjacent to Town Hall on Portland Road.
“I’m hoping to be in there within two or three weeks,” Pinkham said.
