The Westbrook Blue Blazes had a strong showing at the boys Class A swim championships at Bowdoin College on Tuesday, finishing third in the team competition while collecting several individual state championships.

The Blazes finished with 226 points, just behind second-place Cheverus, which finished with 228, overtaking the Blazes for second place on the one of the last events of the meet. Bangor, with 315 points, was the runaway winner in the team competition.

Senior Kyle Goan capped off his Westbrook swimming career with a memorable performance in the state championships. He won the individual championship in the 100 free, finishing in 48.19 and he also won the individual title in the 200 free, touching the wall in first place with a time of 1:45.75, almost three seconds faster than runner-up Cal Rohde of Cheverus. Goan, along with junior Keegan Goan, senior Nick Adrience and junior Derek Hawkes took the championship in the 400 free relay, finishing in 3:21.65.

Hawkes won the only other individual championship for the Blazes at the meet. He took first place in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.05.
