Buxton selectmen were expected Wednesday to name David Pinkham as director of the town’s Public Works Department.

A vote by selectmen on the appointment was scheduled for Wednesday night, after the American Journal’s deadline.

Pinkham could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

The new director will replace Lary Owen, who submitted his resignation on Dec. 19. Public Works foreman Tom Kennie has been in charge since Owen’s resignation became effective on Jan. 1.

Selectmen interviewed seven candidates from about 35 applicants for the post. Selectman Dan Collomy said recently pay for the new director would be $23 per hour, based on a 40-hour work week.

Owen was appointed to succeed Sharon Elwell, who retired a few years ago as an elected road commissioner. Owen became the town’s first director of the Public Works Department in 2005 when voters changed the town charter, replacing the former Highway Department.
