A school official confirmed Friday that an accident at the new elementary school under construction on Route 22 in Buxton sent a worker to the hospital by an ambulance.

Rick Matthews, assistant superintendent at School Administrative District 6, said a mason laborer fell from “a raised location” in the morning of Friday, Feb. 13.

A woman answering the telephone Tuesday at Buxton Fire and Rescue referred calls to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

“We are doing an inspection at the job site,” Karen Billups, assistant area director for OSHA, said Wednesday.

Billups said it would be a couple of weeks, if any violation is cited.

The $28 million school is slated to open in September 2010.
