Scouts bottle drive Saturday
Boy Scout Troop 83 is having a bottle drive 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturday.
Scouts will be stationed at the bottle building at the corner of the parking lot at Westbrook CVS. The drive is one of many scout fundraisers this year.
Donors, who want Scouts to pick up bottles and cans on or before Saturday, should call Linda at 797-3228.
The troop has many great trips planned, including a once-in-a-life time opportunity to attend the 2010 National Jamboree in Virginia, celebrating 100 years of scouting. Troop 83 is sponsored by Highland Lake Grange in Westbrook.
Eagles community benefactor
Westbrook Eagles has recently made three charitable contributions.
In November, Bill Babbidge, vice president of the club, said it donated $200 to “People to People” to help two Westbrook High School juniors participate in a program abroad this summer. Babbidge said Cathy Leighton and Kevin Hook will be ambassadors to Italy and Greece.
The club in November also gave $200 to the state’s Alzheimer’s fund. Last month, the club gave $100 to the Prides Corner Engine Company 3 of the Westbrook Fire Department.

Hip-hop artist at Warren
Award winning hip-hop artist Sontiago will perform at 7 p.m. Friday at Warren Memorial Library, 479 Main St.
The show is part of the Women in Performing Arts series at the library. According to a library statement, the performance is perfect for hip-hop novices and devotees alike, with many interactive elements including a name-that-tune and “freestyling.”
Sontiago has performed and taught hip-hop to youth through the Center for Cultural Exchange and the “Say It Loud” program of Add Verb Productions.
The even is free. It is funded by the Cornelia Warren Community Association. Snow date is Friday, Jan. 30.
