Activities for seniors
Westbrook Senior Citizens will meet at 1 p.m. on Monday at Millbrook Estates, 300 East Bridge St. Don and Cindy Roy will entertain.
Seniors are planning to dine at DiMillo’s Restaurant in Portland on Thursday, Jan. 15, before seeing a performance of “La Cage Aux Folles” at Portland Players in South Portland.

Historians to hear author
Author Michael Connolly will speak when the Westbrook Historical Society meets at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 17 Dunn St.
Connolly’s topic will be “Plight of the Irish longshoreman in Portland.” Connolly has written “They Change Their Sky…The Irish in Maine,” and he is co-author of “John Ford in Focus” about Portland’s famous Irish film director.
Donna Conley, president of Westbrook Historical Society, said the program is free and everyone is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.
Tree collection
Westbrook’s Public Services Department, is collecting and recycling Christmas trees through Jan. 16.
Residents should place the trees, free of decorations, tree stand, and/or other metal objects, curbside during the collection period. This program is for natural grown trees only. No wreaths or artificial trees will be accepted.
Drop-off of Christmas trees will also be accepted at the Public Services Department located at 371 Saco St., Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-3 p.m.
New grad
Maine’s 44 newest police officers graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro recently, said Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.
Among the new officers are Ryan E. Close, Westbrook Police Department.
The class completed 18 weeks of study and training and many of the new officers will begin patrolling next week. The guest speaker for graduation was outgoing Maine Attorney General Steve Rowe.
