Key games this season: “All of our games are key,” said Flagg.
Season outlook: “We return virtually all of our players who played significant minutes last season,” Flagg said. “We have gained experience and hope to take the next step forward and have that translate into wins. We will need to play solid defense and rebound to be competitive. Our goal is to be a playoff team.”
Sport: Girls basketball
Coach: Christopher Aube
Last year’s record: 11-9
Key players: Rachel Clement, Terri Lynn Sanborn, Laura Getchell, Kassie Wilson, Amanda Valente, Meghan Dehetre, Alicia Valente, Molly Mooney.
Key games this season: “They are all big games,” Aube said.
Season outlook: Aube said he has high hopes as the Patriots get ready to start the 2008-2008 season. “There are reasons to be optimistic about the upcoming season. The girls have shown a tremendous commitment to become better players,” Aube said. “We are coming off a successful summer program and I am confident that the girls are ready for the challenge of a rigorous Western Maine Conference schedule. As always, we hope to be playing our best basketball in February.”
Sport: Ice hockey (combined with Poland)
Coach: Aaron Rand
Last year’s record: 15-5, lost 3-1 to Lawrence in the playoffs
Key players: Sean Bilodeau-goalie, Nate Becker-defense, Jake Trickey-defense, Kolby Arnold-forward, Pat Collins-forward, Ben Piper-forward, David Provencher-forward, Joey Davie-defense, Tyler Snow-forward, Zac Knapp-defense, Seth Champagne-forward, Chris Lessard-defense, Sam Mayer-defense, Matt Ouellette-goalie,
Season outlook: Last year the Patriotic Knights had a good regular season, but stumbled in the playoffs, Rand is hoping for better results in the postseason this year. “With 14 players returning we are looking to get over that hurdle and win a playoff game or two,” Rand said.
Sport: Boys and girls Nordic skiing
Coach: Pete Reaman
Key skiers: Girls: Amanda Cormier, according to Reaman, Cormier is a former J2 and Eastern High School championship team member, “we’re looking for a fantastic year from Amanda with top-10 finishes.”
Reaman added that Hannah Wilbur is “coming back stronger than ever from soccer season, we’re looking for some new personal bests from her.”
Boys: Junior Cameron Ketchen made the J2 team last year and should have strong performances this year, Reaman said.
Sophomores Brandon Merry and Ben Schaeffer are both looking solid this year, according to the coach. “Ben had a great cross country running season and Brandon has been focusing on roller skiing. Skimeister Tyler Holmquist has been doing soccer year-round and should have a fantastic season on the slopes and
trails,” Reaman said
The coach said team also features some newcomers. “Freshmen Danny Marshall and Jeremy Holmquist skied for the middle school team and should jump right into the season contributing to the team scoring. Travis Hicks is new to Nordic skiing, but is a strong athlete,” Reaman said.
Season outlook: “We’re looking for strong individual performances from the girls and improvement team-wide,” Reaman said. “The boys will be pushed to place higher during the regular season.”
