Regulars of County Road restaurant Bistro 21 have had to make other plans this week, after a small explosion on Nov. 25 shut down the eatery.
Tammy Speed, who co-owns the restaurant with Cindy Dalfonso, said they can’t reopen until an investigation into the cause of the explosion is completed by their insurance company, which is scheduled to visit the restaurant Thursday.
Acting Fire Chief Bill Baker said Tuesday the incident was minor and no one from the department is investigating it.
According to Speed, the explosion occurred in the pizza oven around 9 a.m., when the exhaust hood in the kitchen was being serviced. Dalfonso suffered first-degree burns, was taken to the hospital and released later that day.
Bistro 21 opened a year and a half ago, and Speed said business has been good. She said they count many County Road businesses as customers and have gotten a lot of support from them, as well as friends and family, as they wait to see when the restaurant can reopen.
“We weren’t expecting it to be this long,” said Speed, but, she said, they will open again “as soon as we can.”
