Tree lights up,
jolly elf arrives
After a large turnout saw the lighting of Gorham’s Christmas tree Sunday at the public safety building, Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived by Fire Department ladder truck.
The Gorham Recreation Department provided hot chocolate and doughnuts. Phoebe Johnston, 8, was first in line to visit Santa.
The weather cooperated, spitting snow as a choir from LifeChurch in Gorham sang traditional carols and hymns.
Band’s in the mood
The Casco Bay Band will present its holiday concert at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the McCormack Performing Arts Center at Gorham High School, 41 Morrill Ave.
The concert, titled “The Many Moods of Christmas,” will include a reading of “The Night Before Christmas.”
Tickets are $7; seniors, $6; children and students free.
Singers to perform
The Gorham Community Chorus and the Gorham High School Chamber Singers will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday in the McCormack Performing Arts Center at Gorham High School, 41 Morrill Ave.
A festival of music
The University of Southern Maine Chamber Singers will present an annual holiday choral festival at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 133 Pleasant St., Portland.
Robert Russell will conduct. Admission is free but donations will be accepted.

Choral concert
The Portland Community Chorus, managed by Gorham’s Ervin P. Kimball, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday at the South Portland High School auditorium.
The 125-member chorus, conducted by Rob Westerberg, will perform a variety of holiday music.
Tickets, available at Starbird Music in Portland and from chorus members, are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
Historians host holiday program
Gorham Chamber Singers will perform when the Gorham Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Gorham Savings Bank Operations Center on Gray Road.
Darrell Morrow will direct the singers. Refreshments will be served and the public is invited.
Hey guys, ’tis the season.

The Bureau of Public Debt reported on Nov. 25 that the U.S. public debt was $10,658,356,277,853.89.
