Several players from the Western Maine Class A champion Gorham High girls soccer team were recently recognized as SMAA All-Stars.
Forward Rachele Burns, midfielder Kristi Zarrilli and defender Lauren Chouinard were named to the first team, while forward Lindsay Wilson and defender Aimee St. Germain received second-team honors. Midfielder Caitlin Caldwell received honorable mention, while Ashley Martin was named to the all-academic team. Coach Jeanne Zarrilli was one of three coaches sharing coach of the year honors.
Westbrook defender Amanda Northrop was also named to the first team. Forward Emily Wight and goalkeeper Stephanie Wagner of the Blue Blazes received honorable mention.
Bonny Eagle forward Kate Boyer and midfielder Messina Provencher received honorable mention. The Scots’ Andrea Ballute, Natasha Jamison, Jessica Minton, Gabby Powell, Provencher, Stefanie Stockwell, Teryan Stringer and Stacy Sullivan received all-academic honors.
The Westbrook boys soccer team had three members named to the first team: midfielder Tyler Rand, defender Matt Foye and goalie Galen Perkins. Daniel Born and Lance Ludka of the Blue Blazes joined Perkins and Rand on the all-academic team.
Gorham defender Greg Gagne also received first-team honors. Teammate Colin Lubelczyk was named to the second team as a midfielder. Seth Wing of the Rams received honorable mention as a defender. William Sutherland and Luke Van de Krol represented Gorham on the all-academic team.
Bonny Eagle forward Jamie Ruginski was named to the second team, as were teammates Robbie Harvey (defender) and Lincoln Sanborn (goalie). Midfielder Khamla Mickelson received honorable mention for the Scots. Channing Day, Richie Harvey and Cody Marean were named to the all-academic team for Bonny Eagle.
