5K race Saturday

Registration for the 5K “Burn Off the Turkey” race will be 7:30-8:30 a.m. on Saturday in the gym at Gorham Recreation Department, 75 South St.

The race starts at 9 a.m. following warm up at 8:30 a.m. The race begins on Ball Park Road and ends on Access Road at Gorham High School Registration fee is $15. For more information, call Gorham Parks and Recreation at 222-1630.

Tree lighting, Santa on Sunday

Gorham will light its tree at 4 p.m. on Sunday in the Gazebo area on the lawn at the Gorham Public Safety Building, 270 Main St.

Hot cocoa will be served and reindeer games for kids. Santa will arrive at 4:30 p.m. aboard a ladder truck.

Those attending are asked to park in the lot at the adjacent Narragansett Elementary School and not enter the road where fire and rescue vehicles exit.

Orchid group to meet at St. Anne’s

The Maine Orchid Society will hold its holiday, potluck meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 299 Main St., Gorham.

A brief business meeting will precede the supper. Members and guests are encouraged to take a dish to share. Orchid enthusiasts from novice to expert are invited. A slide show will also be presented along with a display table with orchids from members’ collections.
