Free Thanksgiving dinner
Joann Groder said the Pythian Sisters Narragansett Temple 111 is sponsoring its annual Thanksgiving dinner served 12-3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27, in its headquarters on Route 22 in Buxton Center.
The fourth annual dinner, traditional with turkey and all the fixings, will be served free to all.
Last year, the sisters served 102 dinners and delivered 12 others to shut-ins. Groder said students at Day One, a youth residence and rehab program in Hollis, again have volunteered to help.
Wreaths to decorate vet graves
Those wishing to sponsor wreaths for veterans’ graves as part of a national observance should contact the South Buxton Cemetery Association immediately.
The wreaths are $15 each and checks should be made payable to Wreaths Across America. The association will mail orders before the deadline on Saturday, Nov. 29. To sponsor a wreath, contact Richard “Sandy” Atkinson, president of South Buxton Cemetery Association, at 929-6495.
The association will place wreaths in a ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the cemetery simultaneously with 300 other cemeteries.
‘Old Peabody Pew’ at Tory Hill
The Dorcas Society of Buxton and Hollis will present its production of “The Old Peabody Pew” at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, in the Tory Hill Meeting House, intersection of routes 202 and 112, Buxton.
The romantic comedy by Kate Douglas Wiggin is an annual holiday tradition in Buxton. The snow date is Dec. 14.
Admission is $5/$2.50.
Rabies clinic
A rabies clinic for dogs and cats will be held 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, in the Bar Mills Fire and Rescue Station, 180 Portland Road, across from Buxton town hall.
The clinic is sponsored by Hollis Animal Clinic, towns of Buxton and Hollis, and the Vacationland Dog Club.
All dogs must be on a leash and cats in carriers. Residents of all communities are welcome.
