Cape Elizabeth’s Nate Lavallee is in the running for the top football award in Maine.
Lavallee has been named one of 11 semifinalists for the Fitzpatrick Trophy, which is given each Lavallee would be the first-ever player from Cape Elizabeth to capture the Fitzy.
In addition to being a semifinalist for the Fitzpatrick, Lavallee was named to the Campbell Conference postseason all-star team.
Lavallee is being considered for the Fitzpatrick Trophy after a season where he was an anchor on the both the Capers’ offensive and defensive line. He was credited with 29 tackles and 5 assists on the season. In addition, Lavallee was got in on the scoring action for the Capers this season, scoring a touchdown on a one-yard rush.
The other semifinalists are: Nate Doehler, Bonny Eagle; Jack Heary, Deering; Joey Eon, Massabesic; Bill Clark, Skowhegan; John Gilboy, Thornton Academy; Nate Lavallee, Cape Elizabeth; Robert Nelson, Portland; Shawn Smith, Hampden Academy; Justin Staires, Mountain Valley; Nate Warren, Bucksport and Jake Watson, Cheverus.
After the voting by coaches and the media, the top three contenders will move on to become finalists for the trophy, which will be awarded at a banquet on Jan. 19 in Portland.
