The contract zone for Stroudwater Place will return to the City Council with another positive recommendation from the Planning Board.
In the past month, the City Council made several amendments to the contract zone proposed by developer Jason Snyder, putting further restrictions on the mix of uses, the size and the impacts of the $300 million, 1.6-million-square-foot project.
The City Council determined that those changes were substantive enough to require a review by the Planning Board.
At a meeting Tuesday, the Planning Board voted unanimously, with alternate Scott Herrick voting for absent member Dennis Isherwood, to recommend that the Council approve the contract zone.
The board expressed some concern over the fact that the developer is only required to build a skating rink at the final phase of the project. Herrick said he would like to see another civic amenity required in case the project isn’t fully built out.
The board included that requirement as part of its recommendation.
The City Council’s public hearing will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, in Room 114 at Westbrook High School.
