On Oct. 25-26, the Casco Grass Drags held its second-year event of pro and amateur snowmobile and all-terrain vehicle racing at Dingley’s Field on Route 302 in Casco.

The races, which were conducted by the Northeast Grass Drag Series of Colebrook, N.H., were well attended with racers coming from as far away as New Jersey. For a complete listing of race winners and stats go to www.grassdrags.net.

Because of the generous support of vendors and businesses, the Northeast Grass Drag Series announcer handed out over $3,200 in giveaways and prizes to spectators and racers alike.

RaveX, a motorsports apparel company, entertained the crowd with a group of its own freestyle performers in a show of snowmobile, dirt bike, and ATV stunts and jumps. Even the youngest spectators had a race of their own: whoever got to the top of the RaveX landing (dirt pile) won a very cool helmet.

The midway area included a little something for everyone, plenty of food, free soda, motorsports and snowmobile dealers, swap meet area, clubs, and apparel offerings. And, despite the cancellation of Sunday’s races because track conditions were deemed unsuitable after Saturday night’s rain and wind storm, the Casco Grass Drags enjoyed a larger crowd and sponsor commitment than last year, which is a good indication to us that this event should return next year for more fall racing fun.

A big thank you to the racers and spectators who traveled and helped make this event worth coming out for. And, of course, much appreciation goes to the following vendors, sponsors, and media folks who committed their time, money, and/or efforts into bringing the grass dragging back to the heart of Maine’s Lakes Region:
