Cape Elizabeth 6

Mountain Valley 34

It looks as if the road to the Class B West championship will be running through Rumford this season.

Both Cape Elizabeth and Mountain Valley came into Friday night’s game undefeated, and since the two teams are heavy favorites to meet again for the regional title, the winner of the game would enjoy home field advantage in the playoffs.

Mountain Valley secured the top seed with a 34-6 win over the Capers in a game that was close for the first three quarters.

After the Falcons jumped out to a 12-0 after the first three quarters, the game was still in reach for Cape. But an offensive outburst in the fourth quarter where the Falcons ran off 22 unanswered points put the game out of reach.

Cape did get on the board late in the game as backup quarterback Matt Donovan found receiver Finn Melanson with a 21-yard touchdown pass.

The Capers get right back to work this weekend with a semifinal game at home against York at Hannaford Field at 1 p.m.

The Capers opened the season on Sept. 5 against York with a 32-12 win.
