Wells 0
Cape Elizabeth remained perfect with a 37-0 road win over Wells on Friday night. The Capers are now 6-0 while Wells dropped to 3-3.
Cape took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 4-yard touchdown run by Tommy Foden and a point-after kick from Matt Donovan. Cape extended its lead to 28-0 at halftime thanks to TD runs of 5 and 59 yards by Foden and a 3-yard scoring carry by Matt Weiss. Donovan added the PAT after each touchdown.
Foden added his fourth TD of the game on a 31-yard pass from Ezra Wolfinger in the third quarter. Donovan’s kick made it 35-0. A safety later in the quarter completed the scoring.
Cape is scheduled to play at Greely on Friday at 7 p.m. The Rangers (3-3) have struggled as of late, dropping three straight games after starting the season 3-0. Most recently, Greely lost 47-0 at Mountain Valley.
South Portland 44
Westbrook 2
A week after defeating Biddeford for its first win of the year, the South Portland High football team made it two straight with a 44-2 road victory over Westbrook (1-5).
The Red Riots led 32-0 at halftime as Ryan Curit scored on a 4-yard carry in the first quarter and added TD runs of 12 and 5 yards in the second quarter. South Portland quarterback Dave Hardison connected with Spencer Bowring on a 61-yard scoring strike in the first quarter and hooked up with Mike Foley on a 25-yard TD pass in the second. Hardison also hit Foley on a two-point conversion pass after Curit’s second score.
In the second half, Hardison used his feet to score, running in from 5 yards out in the third quarter. Tuan Tran added a 15-yard TD scamper in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring for the Red Riots. Westbrook had a fourth-quarter safety.
Both Tran and Curit ran for over 100 yards for South Portland, which is scheduled to play at undefeated Deering at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Rams (6-0) are coming off of a 29-28 comeback road win over Bonny Eagle, the defending Class A state champs.
Scarborough 6
Marshwood 34
Scarborough fell for the second week in a row, losing on the road to Marshwood 34-6 on Friday night. Both teams now stand at 3-3.
Dana Kneeland ran wild for the Hawks, carrying the ball 37 times for 340 yards and scoring all five touchdowns. After Marshwood went up 12-0, the Red Storm cut its deficit to 12-6 in the second quarter on Brendan Ham’s 69-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Zack Bean. But Kneeland added another TD before the half and two more in the fourth quarter to wrap up the win for the Hawks.
Bean was 7-of-11 passing for 126 yards. He threw two interceptions. Peter Tuma carried the ball four times for 52 yards for the Red Storm. Scarborough is scheduled to host Massabesic at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs (5-1) are coming off their first loss of the year, a 38-21 setback at home against undefeated Thornton Academy.
