Members of the American Legion Post 62 hope an upcoming dinner and auction will help boost funds to buy a new elevator – a project the veterans have been working on for the past five years.
Both a live and silent auction will be held at the event on Saturday, Oct. 25. at the Wyndham Hotel in South Portland, which will be hosted by two past commanders of the Westbrook legion post, Dottie McGuirk and Mayor Bruce Chuluda.
McGuirk said there will be “lots of good stuff” up for auction, including ski passes, an overnight stay at Hollywood Slots in Bangor, 100 gallons of oil and gift certificates to area restaurants.
According to McGuirk, purchasing and installing an elevator in the American Legion Post on Dunn Street will cost around $100,000. During the past five years, the members have raised almost $30,000. the theme of the event is “veterans helping veterans,” McGuirk said. Money raised at the event will also go toward filling “welcome bags” for new residents at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough.
Tickets for the dinner and auction are $45 per person and $80 for a couple. For tickets or more information, call McGuirk at 856-6202.
