Native son celebrates 90th
A large turnout of family and friends honored Norman F. Kennie, who was born in Westbrook, for his 90th birthday with a party at his home on Sebago Lake.
Kennie, son of James W. and Edith Herrick Kennie, worked at S.D. Warren in Westbrook and the South Portland Shipyard before joining the Army Air Force. After military service, he returned to Portland.
After serving around the world as an engineer with New England Telephone Co., Kennie retired in 1973, but then worked until 1985 for Standish Telephone Co. Then, he owned a telephone consulting business.
Those attending his 90th birthday celebration, held in July, included Margaret Lowell, Donald and Mary Lowell, Trevor Geogh, Wayne, Diane, Rachel and Marsha Wescott and friend Tim, James and Leanne Kennie, Kate and Jeff Maietta, Laura Shea, Barbara Libby, Karen, Steve and Kendall Sebastian, Betty Brown and Augustus Moss, Mae Batchelor, Justin Slipp, Carol, Edward and Deborah, Kennie and Jane Kennie Hartman, who traveled from Puallup, Wash.

Cheers for Halloween dance party
The Elite All Stars of Maine, a cheerleading and dance group based in Westbrook, is sponsoring a Halloween dance party 7:30-11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Elks Lodge in South Portland.
The event features door prizes, costume contest, children’s activities, haunted house, refreshments, dancing, live DJ and a silent auction.
Tickets are $6 at the door, $5 per person or $20 for a family if purchased by Monday, Oct. 20.

Leave it for city
Westbrook Public Services will be collecting fall yard debris from Monday, Oct. 27, through Saturday, Nov. 8.
Leaves must be in biodegradeable bags to be collected curbside.
Residents can also take leaves and brush to the public services garage on Saco Street. After the program period, only leaves will be accepted at the public services garage during the month of November, including Saturdays, 7 a.m.-1 p.m.
Brush will be collected curbside beginning Oct. 27. All brush and small limbs must be placed out for collection on Oct. 27. There is a one-truck limit per residence for brush and small wood. No large wood or stumps will be collected.

Sky to speak
Returning as a guest speaker, Rabbi Harry Sky will be in the pulpit when the Unitarian Universalist Church, 719 Main St., meets at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Sky is rabbi emeritus at Temple Beth El in Portland. He spoke at the Westbrook church last month.
Concert to benefit fuel program
The city’s interfaith community of churches is sponsoring a concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Westbrook High School to benefit fuel assistance.
The concert will feature performances by John O’Hara, Sidecar Heroes, Betty McIntyre, Different Drummers Drum Circle, Kinda Blue Jazz Combo, Dan Merrill and Lisa Gallant Seal.
Tickets, $5 in advance or $7 at the door, are available at Westbrook City Hall, Trinity Lutheran Church, Westbrook Hannaford and Vineyard Christian Fellowship.
Lions to meet
Westbrook Lions will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the American Legion Post 197, 300 Conant St.
