The Thornton Academy golf team is well on the way to a second straight Class A state title as they improved to 8-0-1 with two straight 11-2 wins over Bonny Eagle. Last Thursday afternoon, the Trojans and Scots got together at Biddeford Saco Country Club where Thornton golfers showed again why they are the team to beat.
In Thursday’s match, Thornton’s Andrew Cummings defeated Bonny Eagle’s Kevin Moskevich 2 and 1. Brian Angis of Thornton defeated Bradley Myers 4 and 3. James Morse of Thornton defeated Joe Call 2-up. Jeff Hilton of Bonny Eagle defeated Zach Golojuch 1-up. Peter Kalagias of Thornton defeated Billy Kirk 2 and 1.
Thursday’s match between the Trojans and Scots marked the second day in a row the two teams got together. On Sept.24, the two teams met at Salmon Falls Country Club with the Golden Trojans winning by the same 11-2 score.
In that match Cummings defeated Moskevich 3 and 1. Angis defeated Myers 3 and 1. Morse defeated Call 4 and 2. Golojuch defeated Hilton 4 and 3. Jon Thompson of Thornton defeated Evan Amell 2 and 1, and Kalagias halved Billy Kirk.
The Trojans were scheduled to wrap up their slate of regular season matches this week with a match against Windham. With their record the Trojans have earned an automatic bid to the state tournament Oct. 11 at Natanis.
