An open house, featuring tours, prizes, kids’ acivities and giveaways, will be held Saturday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at ecomaine’s recycling center, 64 Blueberry Road, Portland.

Breakfast and snacks will also be provided at the site, which is located off outer Congress Street, just across the Maine Turnpike from Unum. The purpose is to show the public how single-sort recycling works.

Joining in the event with ecomaine will be Ruth’s Reusable Resources and the State Planning Office, which also have recycling information. Also planned are a visit from Portland Public Works Department mascot, Jack Hammer, and heavy equipment on site for children to sit in, including front-end loader, dump truck, fork lift, automated dual-function garbage/recycling truck, and more.

ecomaine is a nonprofit waste management company owned and operated by 21 municipalities in southern Maine. More information is available at www.ecomaine.org.
