The Maine Bandits 14-U Girls’ fast pitch softball team won the Fall Ball tournament in Lowell, Mass. that was played on Sept. 13 and 14.
The Bandits went undefeated through pool play of the 10-team tournament, scoring 27 runs while allowing just two. The Bandits were declared champions of the rain-shortened tournament by virtue of being the first place team going into Sunday’s championship round.
The Bandits’ three starting pitchers, Reen Kahl, Julia Geaumont and Paige Cormier, did not allow an earned run, striking out 14, 10 and nine in their respective starts. Kaytlyn Norton and Shelby Bryant, both of South Portland, batted .700 and .556 respectively, hitting from the number three and leadoff spots in the batting order.
The Bandits remain undefeated in fall competition, posting a perfect 8-0 record and winning both tournaments in which they have competed. Kahl and Geaumont are both 3-0 and the team has collectively posted a .365 batting average, scoring 73 runs while allowing just 12 during tournament play.
Local members of the Bandits include Norton and Bryant from South Portland, Sam Schildroth and Julia Geaumont of Saco, Jasmine Welch of Kennebunk and Reen Kahl of Monmouth. The remaining four members of the team, Brie Keenan, Katie Sullivan, Haley Spiers and Paige Cormier, are all from the Portsmouth, N.H. area. Randy Schildroth manages the Bandits, with head coach Jerre Bryant assisted by Jim Geaumont, John Sullivan and Greg Norton.
