Men’s hoop league ready to tip off
The fall men’s four-on-four basketball league will begin on Sept. 22 with 10 teams in the mix. The Legends return with a chance for a three-peat after a thrilling upset over VTEC in the summer league final. It should be the strongest fall league in years. Games are on Mondays and Tuesdays, with 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. start times.
Men’s flag football league wrapup
The season kicked off with defending champion Pat’s Pizza Clockwork crushing the Leatherheads, 77-6. Shaun Morrison passed for seven touchdowns and accounted for two other scores on the ground for Pat’s. Dan Diffen had three TD catches and a TD run for the winners. Matt Isaac caught the lone score for the Leatherheads.
Red Dog captured an early season showdown with Whitney & Pound, 49-27. John O’ Brien fired six scoring passes for Red Dog. Bill Hardwick grabbed two TD receptions for Whitney & Pound.
Swamp Dawgs easily downed the Lightning, 46-20. Bill Call tossed six TD passes and Seth Farrington had two interceptions, including one for a score along with two TD catches. Eric Gagnon had a TD run and a TD pass for the Lightning.
The Dayton Hitmen destroyed the Backyard Bombers, 86-6. Scott Beattie had eight TD passes and Orry Cummings had three TD catches and two interceptions for the Hitmen. The Hitmen defense had nine interceptions in all. Jim Burton threw a TD pass for the Backyard Bombers.
The player of the week was Shaun Morrison of Pat’s Pizza.
