The Bonny Eagle boys’ soccer team pulled out to a 4-0 first half lead and never looked back against Sanford on Saturday. Adding another two goals in the second half to take a 6-0 win over the Redskins. Jamie Ruginski recorded a hat trick in the first half to pace the Scots.

Midway through the first half, the Scots got on the board for the first time. On a corner kick, Cody Marean sent the ball in toward the net. Tyler Ruby sent it back near the net, as the ball was streaking across the mouth of the goal, Khamla Mickelson headed it in for the goal and a 1-0 Bonny Eagle lead.

The Scots doubled their lead just a few minutes later when Ruginski picked up his first goal of the game. Mickelson picked off a pass and brought the ball into the Sanford end of the field where he found Ruginski, who stuffed the ball into the net.

Ruginski made it 3-0 Bonny Eagle a bit later in the first half when he got a loose ball at the top of the box. He dribbled to the corner and shot to the far side of the net past Sanford keeper Dave Webb. Ruginski’s third goal late in the first half made it 4-0. Ruginski got the ball off a throw in and got around the last defender and put another shot by the keeper.

The Scots recorded two more goals midway through the second half. Nick Walton picked off a punt from Webb and lobbed a shot over him from 40 yards out. Channing Day added the final goal for the Scots on a penalty kick when Eliot Douin was fouled in the box.

Bonny Eagle goalie Lincoln Sanborn made two saves in the first half and Ben Conner had six in the second half. Webb finished with seven saves.
