Key players: Jack Mallis, Jackson Taylor, David Ingraham, Nate Dixon, John McGintee, Josh Cahoon, Charlton Charles, Jacob Greenwood
Key games: Sept. 12 at Bonny Eagle, Oct. 10 at Gorham
Season outlook: The Eagles showed much improvement in the preseason, even beating Massabesic on the road and the team looked very good against Deering in the 2008 season opener. They should be in the mix for a playoff spot.
Field Hockey
Coach: Cory Merrill

Season outlook: Despite the 0-2 start, the Eagles should be battling for a playoff spot as the season goes on. Last year they were competitive in nearly all their games. This year they will look to get just a couple extra wins that will put them into the tourney.
Boys Soccer
Coach: Jim O’Connor

Season outlook: The Eagles earned the final playoff spot last year but were sent home early by eventual state champions Greely. With another year under their belts, the Eagles should be in the tournament once again and likely higher than the No. 12 seed.
Girls Soccer
Coach: Wally LeBlanc

2008 season: The girls earned a 3-2 win over a tough McAuley team in overtime to get off to a 1-0 start.
Key players: Jen Levine, Nicole Ross, Meghan Gridden, Jaci Lorenzen
Key games: Sept. 18 vs. Gorham, Sept. 23 vs. Scarborough
Season Outlook: The Eagles were very good last year and should be just as good if not better this year. Their season opening overtime win over perennial power McAuley should put the rest of the league on notice that Windham will be among the top tier teams this season.
Cross Country
Coaches: Jeff Riddle, head coach; Jeannine Foster, assistant coach
Last year: “Last year was a successful season for both our boys and our girls’ teams,” Riddle said. “Our athletes learned much about our sport and committed to become competitive runners. Erin Flatley ran a great regional race as a freshman and took 16th place, which earned her a spot at the state meet. At states, she ran even better and earned 12th place in the Class A race.
The boys’ team set the stage for this season with a great start. Our middle school team, under direction from Coach Paula Pock, went undefeated again and we now have those talented athletes in the high school. This season will be one for the memories and the Windham history books.”
2008 season: The girls team finished 12th at the SMAA Relays with a time of 60:04. The boys were sixth in 68:06.
Key runners: Girls: Talia McKay, Erin Flatley, Kayla Phinney (captain), Emma Krieg, Lucy Algeo, Meghan Rich, Sasha Van Baars, Danielle Bellavance
Boys: Garrett Clemmer, Lance Webster, Austin Loukas (captain), Bryndon Page, Andrew O’Neill (captain), Shawn Pennels, Ben Algeo, Keegan Brennan, Matt Butler
Key meets this season: Regional and state meets
Season outlook: “With 44 athletes on our boys and girls teams combined, many freshman and sophomores, Windham cross country is as strong as it has ever been,” Riddle said. “The boys started their season by winning the Lakes Region Invitational, they were very proud of this accomplishment as they have worked very hard to prepare for this season. The girls started strong as well placing third at the invitational. We are learning how to be a team and not just seeking great individual performances. We hope to win out during some of our regular season meets, something we have never experienced yet, we hope to train our athletes to keep them injury-free and able to reach their goals, and we have set a team goal of getting both the boys and girls team to the state championship meet in Belfast.”
