City GOP meeting Sunday
The Westbrook Republican City Committee meeting is
Sunday at 7 p.m., at the Westbrook Public Safety Building,
first floor training room (off main lobby). The building is at
570 Main St.

Troop 81 expo Saturday
Boy Scout Troop 81 will hold its third annual Scouting Expo and New Scout Sign-up, Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in Riverbank Park.
Displays and activities will include blindfolded tent pitching, compass work, cooking demonstrations with free samples, homemade soda and ice cream and rope making.
Boy Scout Troop 81 has been in Westbrook since 1945. The troop started at St. Mary’s Church and met there for approximately 60 years. Then, about six years ago it moved to the Westbrook First Baptist Church.
The scoutmaster of Troop 81 is Dick Chretien, who started as a Boy Scout in the troop in the late 1960s, He became assistant scoutmaster in the fall of 1974 and took over as a temporary scoutmaster in January of 1977.
Boys who are 11 years old or older may come to the Scouting Expo to sign up. Troop calendars for the 2008-’09 season will be available. For more information, call Chretien at 854-5067.
Seniors start season
Westbrook Senior Citizens will meet at 1 p.m. on Monday at Mill Brook Estates, 300 East Bridge St.
Refreshments will be served at the meeting, first of the fall season.
Officers for 2008-2009 are Ellie Archambault, president, 856-0018; Leonard Douglas, vice president, 883-6460; Chloe Heiser, secretary, 854-0274; and Betty Green, treasurer, 854-8309.
The seniors will meet at Mill Brook Estates until renovations are completed in the parish hall at St. Hyacinth’s Church. The group meets twice monthly on the first and third Mondays. A luncheon is served at noon on the third Monday with reservations due at the first meeting of each month.
Card party
The St. Anthony Parish card party for seniors on Thursdays will begin its fall season 1-4 p.m. on Sept. 11 at Mill Brook Estates, 300 East Bridge St.
Phil Mailhot, card party chairman, said the location had changed because the parish hall is being renovated. “All seniors are welcome. There is no charge, so come join the fun, card games, dice games and free refreshments,” Mailhot said.
