The Westbrook City Council will vote Monday on setting a date for a public hearing for the 1.6 million-square-foot retail development proposed for Stroudwater Street Monday.

According to City Administrator Jerre Bryant, councilors will vote to hold the hearing on Oct. 6. On Sept. 22, a workshop will be scheduled for the City Council to discuss the proposal.

During the past several months, the Planning Board has reviewed the $300 million project and has recommended the City Council approve the proposed contract zone, as well as changes to the comprehensive plan that would have to be made in order for the project to move forward.

Westbrook resident Jason Snyder first proposed the project, consisting of high-end retail, restaurants and community amenities, such as a skating rink and a farmers market, in February.

The City Council meets at 7 p.m. in Room 114 at Westbrook High School.
