Legends win 4-on-4 hoop league title
The Legends shocked previously undefeated and top ranked VTEC, 111-102, to capture the Gray Recreation Department’s summer league title recently.
It was the sixth-seeded Legends second straight championship. Both teams had tough semifinal wins to get to the final. VTEC held off New Era, 76-74 and the Legends downed Smith Barney, 95-73.
The Legends three-point shooting proved the difference in the final, with Frank Billings and Travis Seaver hitting seven and nine respectively. Billings finished with a game-high 41 and Seaver added 38. CJ Vose was a presence inside for the Legends, scoring 23 and grabbing countless rebounds. Tom Farwell’s spectacular basket while getting fouled was the exclamation point for the winners.
Matt Clement led a tough VTEC team with 37 and Caleb Sayward chipped in with 32. Other team members for the Legends who contributed during their championship run were Jeff Grigsby, Rob Brown and Roger Dehetre. Thanks to all of the 13 teams in the league and look for the fall league to begin on Sept. 22. A men’s 40 and over league is being formed beginning Sept. 25. For more information, call 657-2323.
