The calendar still says that it’s summertime, but the fall sports season is getting ready to heat up, as the local teams get ready with some preseason action this week.
In Cape Elizabeth, the girls varsity volleyball team will be in action on Saturday, Aug. 23 as they head to Greely for the Greely round robin. The boys and girls varsity soccer teams will also play on Saturday, with the girls taking on Bonny Eagle at home at 9 a.m. and the boys will take on Cheverus at Hannaford Field at 5 p.m.
The Capers football team gets their preseason underway on Monday, Aug. 25 with a home scrimmage against Boothbay. The soccer teams will also be in action on Monday, with the girls taking on North Yarmouth Academy at 10 a.m. and the boys taking on Westbrook after the football game at 6 p.m.
In Scarborough, the girls volleyball team will be joining Cape at the Greely round robin on Saturday morning. The football team will be traveling to Westbrook on Monday for a scrimmage against the Blue Blazes at 4 p.m.
The Red Storm girls soccer team will be traveling to Brunswick on Aug. 26 to take on the Brunswick High Dragons in a preseason scrimmage at 4:30 p.m.
In South Portland, the Red Riots will get their football preseason underway on Aug. 25 as South Portland takes on Thonton Academy in a preseason scrimmage at 4 p.m. at South Portland High School.
The Riots will have a busy football week this week as they also will be traveling to Noble on Friday, Aug. 29 to take on the Knights at 7 p.m.
