Though the election is still more than two months away, Westbrook’s House and Senate representatives have announced their candidacies.
Running for the Senate District 9 seat are Portland residents Democrat Joe Brannigan and Republican Nicholas McGee. Incumbent Brannigan, 77, has served a total of 24 years in both the House and Senate and said he thinks his institutional memory and leadership experience are valuable.
Newcomer McGee, 28, said he decided to run because he loves the state and wants to make a difference.
“I care, and that’s the honest truth,” he said.
For the House District 125 seat, Democratic incumbent Ann Peoples is being challenged by Republican Bob Morrill.
Looking back on her first term, Peoples, 62, said representing Westbrook has been “an honor and a privilege” and she’d like to continue where she left off, especially with her work on the transportation committee. Morrill, 61, said he decided it was “time to get off the sidelines and into the game and try to reduce the size of the government.”
Democrat Tim Driscoll is finishing up his second term as the representative from House District 126. Driscoll, 52, an emergency room nurse at Mercy Hospital said serving in the Legislature “is an extension of what my life is about, helping people.” He will run against Republican Kevin Crocker, who did not return phone calls by American Journal deadline.
