The Westbrook-Gorham Rotary Club is getting a deal from the city on house lots to be used in the vocational school’s building trades program.
The City Council voted Monday to sell – for the price of $4 – four city-owned lots to the Rotary Club, which handles the real estate transactions for the Westbrook Regional Vocational Center’s building trades program.
Previously, the city has sold lots for the program to the Rotary Club at a slightly discounted price. This time, however, the club asked the city to donate the four lots at the end of Dale Avenue in order to offset the cost of having to extend the road and utilities.
Through the next eight years, students in the program will construct four houses on the lots. Part of the agreement between the city and the Rotary Club is that if the club realizes any profit from selling the homes, it will turn that money back to the city.
Councilors voted 5-1, with John O’Hara opposed and Drew Gattine absent, to donate the lots.
