Buxton police are searching for a woman who robbed the Tory Hill Variety Store on 222 Narragansett Trail on Saturday morning, walking away with an undisclosed amount of money.
The robbery happened at 10:30 a.m. when a woman walked up to the counter, showed a gun and demanded money.
Stephanie Lord, who bought the store five months ago with her husband, Andrew Lord, said she never thought anything like this would happen.
“When she (demanded the money) the first time, I couldn’t believe what I heard,” Lord said. “I realized what I had heard and just did what I was told.”
The robber left the store and entered an older gray two-door sedan with a spoiler or a wing on the rear of it, according to the police report.
The vehicle traveled east on Route 202 towards Gorham, and police obtained the partial plate number, which began with the numbers “377” and ended with letters “CH.”
According to the report, the woman was in her 20s with blond hair pulled back and light colored eyes. She was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled up with a knee-length, black cotton skirt with no panty hose. She was also wearing black shoes.
The incident is under investigation, and there are no further details at this time, said investigating Buxton officer Scott Camire.
Lord said she and her staff will undergo security training and the store is also taking additional steps to increase security, but those steps were not released.
