Work closing Brown Street
Brown Street, from Myrtle to Cumberland Street, in Westbrook will be closed to through traffic starting Aug. 4. The closure may last up to eight weeks.
The Portland Water District is making improvements to its Cottage Place Pump Station and the wastewater vault located in the road. The project will install mechanisms to eliminate clogging and flooding in the wastewater pump station and improve the overall operation of the Westbrook wastewater system.
Due to the scope of the work and the narrowness of the road, the closure is necessary. Residents will be allowed access from the Myrtle Street end of Brown Street. All others will be detoured. Detour routes will be clearly marked.

Free job postings
Westbrook Housing is introducing free job postings for area employers. The new service is designed to help both employers and Westbrook Housing clients.
“We see people every day with an extraordinary number of job skills but, due to circumstances beyond their control, find themselves unemployed,” said Susan Eldridge, deputy director of Westbrook Housing. “We also see families in which two adults are working but still have trouble making ends meet.”
Eldridge said the listing is a way to bring employers and potential employees together for their mutual benefit. “If we can direct job seekers to those who are trying to fill position, everyone wins,” she said.
Listings are exclusively for informational purposes. Westbrook Housing accepts no responsibility for either party. Once openings are posted, responsibility is on the job seeker to make contact with the listing employer.

Stacey Bruns honored at center
For the second time, Stacey Bruns has been named Teen of the Month at the Mission Possible Teen Center.
She has been coming to the teen center evert day for more than four years, and is at the core of the teen center family. According to Rickie Bogle, program coordinator, Bruns has done an incredible amount of growing, changing from a shy, unsure girl into a confident and capable young woman. She enjoys playing games, cooking dinner and being helpful to the staff. She has recently started volunteering with the center and will be receiving a credit at school for her volunteer work.
Garnett on dean’s list
Marissa R. Garnett has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Clark University in Worcester, Mass.
Garnett, a member of the class of 2010, attended Catherine McAuley High School in Portlanbd.
Flashback in concert
The six-member band Flashback will be in concert 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, in Riverbank Park.
The band plays a mix of top 40 country, oldies and classic rock. The concert is sponsored by Westbrook Recreation Department.
