Reading programs begin

Summer programs have begun at Walker Memorial Library.

The annual summer reading program for children started this week and will last through August 15. To sign up, visit the library at 800 Main Street.

In addition, the library has added a new program this summer. Residents can sign up to receive passes to museums all over the area at a discounted rate. To request a pass visit the library’s Web site at www.walker.lib.me.us.

Trafton, Robidou wed

Amanda Trafton and Steve Robidoux were married May 3 in Las Vegas, Nev. The ceremony was in the Little Chapel of the Flowers.

A wedding reception will be held Saturday, July 5, at the Trailblazers Club in Wells. They are living in Shacklefords, Va.

The bride is a graduate of Westbrook High School in 1999 and she is the sister of Jennifer Trafton of Westbrook.

WHS 1988 class reunion

The Westbrook Class of 1988 20th reunion will be held on Saturday, July 5, from 6:30 p.m.-midnight, at Verrillos. The cost is $25 per person.

Music in the park

The free summer concert series in Riverbank Park will kick off Wednesday, July 9, from 6-8 p.m., with Westbrook City Band.

The eight-concert series, which concludes Aug. 27, is sponsored by Westbrook Recreation Department.

Gray earns Bowdoin degree

Matthew Gray graduated May 24 from Bowdoin College in Brunswick with a bachelor of arts degree in Asian studies (cum laude) and French.

He translated a 14th-century Japanese picture scroll for his honors thesis. He was on the dean’s list four years and a Sarah and James Bowdoin scholar. As a recipient of the Freeman Fellowship, he attended an intensive Japanese language program in Hikone, Japan, in 2006.

During his junior year, he studied at Nanzan University in Nagoya, Japan, and at the University of Toulouse in France. Vacation time was spent sight-seeing in Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto in Japan and Paris, France.

Gray, a tenor, was a featured soloist in the Bowdoin Chamber Choir. He’s working at the Bowdoin College Library and plans to teach English this fall in Japan.

A 2004 graduate of Westbrook High School, Gray is the son of Daniel and Brenda Gray of Westbrook.
