Two members of Gorham police have been promoted to sergeant effective June 21.

Police Chief Ron Shepard said Tuesday that the new sergeants are Det. Dana Thompson and Officer Ben Moreland. Shepard said both will be assigned to the midnight shift. Moreland works a night shift now.

Thompson and Moreland will join three current Gorham sergeants – Dan Young, Bob Mailman and Mike Nault. With the two additions, Gorham will have sergeants on duty “around the clock,” Shepard said.

Shepard said the department will hire two officers to replace the two being promoted. He said the department is in the process of replacing Moreland, and Thompson’s detective position would soon become available.
