Laura Getchell struck out 18 and tossed a one-hit shutout as Gray-New Gloucester avenged an early-season loss to Lake Region with a 1-0 Western Maine Conference softball victory on Saturday in Naples.
The Patriots improve to 9-3 with the victory. The Lakers dropped to 7-6. Gray-New Gloucester is ranked fourth in the latest Western B Heal Points, while Lake Region is sixth.
Kassie Wilson’s triple in the third inning scored Abby Ryan, who reached on an error, for the game’s only run.
Morgan McClean singled in the sixth inning to break up Getchell’s no hitter.
Jesse Hutchins allowed three hits and struck out nine for the Lakers.
Taylor Damon singled in the fifth for the Patriots and Ryan added a single in the sixth.
Lake Region topped Gray-New Gloucester 1-0 in Gray on April 23.
