Democratic candidates for Maine’s 1st Congressional District will debate Saturday at 6:30 p.m., at the Buxton Town Hall.
Confirmed for the debate, sponsored by the Buxton Democratic Committee, are Adam Cote, Mark Lawrence, Stephen Meister, Chellie Pingree and Ethan Strimling.
The evening will begin with an informal, half-hour “Meet the Candidates” session, during which voters can talk directly with the candidates. The timed political debate will begin at 7 p.m., and will consist of two 50-minute sections, during which the candidates will answer questions on five topics: the war in Iraq, health care, the economy and jobs, the environment and energy/transportation.
Local Democratic candidates for the Maine House of Representatives will also be present to meet voters and answer their questions. To raise money for the Buxton Democratic Committee for the hosting of future political events, a 50/50 raffle drawing will be held at the intermission and refreshments will be sold.
