Representatives from Westbrook, Windham and Raymond will vote Monday to see if the school consolidation plans they have been hashing out since this fall will become official.
“Monday’s meeting will tell us which direction all three of the districts will be heading,” said Michael Kucsma, business manager of the Westbrook School department. “Over the last several meetings there’s been a lot more material in front of folks and I think people are starting to form opinions.”
The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. in the Windham High School cafeteria on Gray Road. It is open to the public.
The three towns first filed a non-binding intention to consolidate on Nov. 26, 2007, with the Maine Department of Education. Since then, consolidation committee members from the three towns have discussed passing an official vote, but some members have asked for more time.
Westbrook and Windham both have large enough populations that they are not required to consolidate. Raymond falls below that line but does not have consolidation plans with any other towns.
“When the group sits down this Monday, you don’t know which way the vote is going to go,” said Kucsma. He and Jan Breton, assistant superintendent of schools in Westbrook, both said Westbrook committee members intend to vote to consolidate with both Raymond and Windham.
