While most of the attention has been focused on Lake Region’s top-ranked girls basketball team, the boys are on a championship quest of their own.

The seventh-ranked Lakers took care of the first step on their path to Gold Ball on Tuesday, beating No. 5 Fryeburg Academy 53-33, securing a berth in the Western Maine Class B quarterfinals.

The Lakers will take on second-seeded Yarmouth at the Portland Expo on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
