Westbrook police have announced the hiring of three new officers and the addition of a new, full-time traffic enforcement officer.

The three officers hired are all experienced, coming from police departments in Maine, New Hampshire and Virginia.

Officer Anthony Ciampi, who has 10 years of experience, comes from the Biddeford Police Department and will be working day shifts in Westbrook. Officer Jeff Stackpole, who will be working nights, has four years of experience and is joining Westbrook from the police department in Seabrook, N.H. Coming from the Prince William County Police Department in Virginia, Officer Kathy Oelschlegel has four years of experience and will serve Westbrook as the school resource officer and domestic violence specialist.

Westbrook Police Officer Michael Brown will now be dedicating his time to traffic throughout the city. Though other police officers will continue to enforce traffic violations, Brown will no longer be responding to calls for service in order to focus on enforcing speed and other traffic violations.

According to Police Chief Bill Baker, hiring the new officers will save taxpayer money in training, and Brown’s new charge will help make the streets of Westbrook safer for motorists and pedestrians.
