The South Portland indoor track team claimed seven event wins on their way to a big win over Cheverus, Windham and Biddeford. The Red Riots won the senior hurdles, junior 40, open 300, senior 200, junior 400, the senior relay and the open relay on their way to racking up 116.5 points. Cheverus was second with 74.5 with Biddeford taking third with 53.5 and Windham fourth with 30.5 points.

Windham’s Patrick Ciez took the day’s first event, the junior hurdles with a time of 6.4 seconds. South Portland’s Will Carter and JC Esquibel finished second and fourth, so the score was tied after the first event. Biddeford’s Jordan Tran was third in the race.

The Red Riots assumed sole possession of the meet lead in the next event, the senior hurdles. David Hardison won the race in 6.1 seconds with teammate Tony Haeuser taking second. Biddeford’s Matt Martin was fourth.

South Portland freshman Adrian Reid won the junior 40-yard dash with a time of 4.9 seconds. In the senior 40, the Riots took second and third with Ian Golder taking second and Brian Arsenault in third. After the hurdles and 40’s, the Red Riots already held a 20-point lead over their closest pursuer.

Biddeford’s Jake Hill notched one of Biddeford’s two event wins when he took the junior shot put with a throw of 34-1/4. The Red Riots picked up more points in the event thanks to Carl Skillings taking second and Matthew Welch and Billy Darling finishing third and fourth. In the senior shot, Eddie Murphy picked up second place points for the Tigers and Aaron Bickford was fourth for the Riots.

Ciez claimed the top spot in the high jump with a leap of 5-10. His teammate Adam Linden was fourth, clearing the bar at 5-6. Haeuser was second in that event and Hardison tied for fourth. Windham picked up their third event win later on in the junior 200.

In the one-mile run, it was Martin who claimed the top spot for the Tigers. His time of 4:44.30 placed him well ahead of second place Taylor Dundas of Cheverus who came in at 4:50.70. South Portland’s David Knowland was third with a time of 4:54.70.

The Riots expanded their lead once oval racing began. Golder took the 300-meters in 36.9 seconds. Biddeford’s Andrew Allaire followed him. South Portland’s Cameron Gervais and Brandon Emerson picked up more points for the Riots by taking third and fourth.

Hardison just edged Ben Blais of Biddeford to win the senior 200 in 26.4 seconds. Blais clocked in at 26.5 seconds. The Riots gathered a few more points in the junior 400 when Esquibel won that event. John Medici and Matthew Clement were third and fifth.

After several more close finishes in the senior 400, the 600-meters and 800-meters, the Riots headed into the relays with the win already in hand. The Red Riots won the senior relay by over three seconds over Cheverus. They beat the Stags again in the open relay to finish off the meet.
