Westbrook police are investigating why two Brooklyn, N.Y., men arrested Tuesday were in Westbrook.
Jaquil Murray, 21, and Jerry Abkhar, 26, who police say have been convicted of several crimes in New York, were arrested by Westbrook police at 6:40 p.m. for stealing alcohol from Hannaford. supermarket
According to authorities, Murray, who has more than 68 arraignments, has been convicted of several prior thefts, robbery with a firearm and menacing with a firearm. Abkhar has also been convicted of several thefts, as well as attempted murder and assault with a firearm.
Police Chief Bill Baker said the department has been in contact with New York police, the FBI and the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in an effort to figure out why the two men were in Westbrook this week. The men are being held at Cumberland County Jail.
