Fulfilling the spirit of Christmas, volunteers served free meals to 150 people who gathered at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church Dec. 25 in Westbrook.

“It went beautifully,” said Joy Knight, the church moderator. “It was very successful.”

The meal included turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, vegetables and desserts. Local businesses contributed to make it possible, along with volunteers from the church and the community. Knight said seed money to sponsor the meal came from the disbanded Methodist Church.

Besides food, the event offered a social opportunity so people didn’t have to be alone at Christmas.
